Dong Thap General Hospital Successfully Performs Surgery on Complex Cervical Spinal Stenosis Case

(ĐTO) Recently, Dong Thap General Hospital (My Ngai Ward) successfully performed surgery on patient Le Van Loi (61 years old, residing in Hamlet 3, Phong My Commune) who was diagnosed with a cervical disc herniation.

Mr. Loi was admitted to the hospital with pain in all four limbs, paralysis of both lower limbs, weakness in both arms, and severe neck stiffness that prevented him from turning his head. Doctors from the Department of Neurosurgery at Dong Thap General Hospital conducted examinations, laboratory tests, and paraclinical investigations, and diagnosed him with cervical spinal stenosis at C4–C5 and C5–C6 levels. This condition causes spinal cord compression and carries a high risk of seriously affecting mobility and daily activities.

Accordingly, the surgical team led by Specialist Doctor I Do Minh Nhut from the Department of Neurosurgery at Dong Thap General Hospital performed the surgery on Mr. Loi using Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF)—an advanced technique for treating cervical spine conditions.

The surgery lasted five hours. The doctors successfully relieved the spinal cord compression and firmly stabilized Mr. Loi’s cervical spine. After the operation, he remained at the hospital for monitoring and treatment. His health condition stabilized, and he was discharged today (February 11).
