Dong Thap: Team K91 Completes Mission to Recover Fallen Soldiers’ Remains from Cambodia

(DTO) On the afternoon of July 5, Dong Thap Province’s Steering Committee 515 held a solemn ceremony to welcome Team K91 of the Provincial Military Command, recognizing its successful completion of the mission to search for, recover, and repatriate the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who sacrificed their lives in Cambodia during different periods, in the 2025-2026 dry season. 

The ceremony was attended by Colonel Nguyen Van Hoa, Political Commissar of the Dong Thap Provincial Military Command and Standing Deputy Head of the province’s Steering Committee 515; Ms. Nguyen Thi Kieu Loan, Deputy Director of the Department of Home Affairs and Deputy Head of the province’s Steering Committee 515; along with local Party and government leaders of Tan Hong Commune.

During the 2025-2026 dry season, Team K91 carried out search, recovery, and repatriation operations in Cambodia’s Prey Veng and Pursat provinces. Throughout the mission, the officers and soldiers of the team overcame harsh weather, rugged terrain, dangerous conditions, and limited living facilities. They worked closely with local communities, painstakingly following every lead, interviewing witnesses, and tracing wartime evidence to recover and bring the fallen home. 

The team processed 60 reports related to fallen soldiers and burial sites across 22 communes in nine districts of Prey Veng and Pursat provinces. It surveyed more than 85 locations, excavating approximately 63,512 cubic meters of soil and rock, and recovered the remains of 47 fallen soldiers. This brought the total number of recovered remains during the 2025-2026 dry season to 68, including 47 recovered in Cambodia and 21 within Vietnam. 

Speaking at the ceremony, Colonel Nguyen Van Hoa emphasized that the search, recovery, and identification of fallen soldiers’ remains is a task of special political significance, as well as a sacred responsibility, profound gratitude, and moral obligation shared by the Party, the people, and the armed forces toward those who sacrificed their lives for national independence, freedom, and international solidarity.

Colonel Nguyen Van Hoa congratulated Team K91 on successfully fulfilling the sacred mission entrusted by the Party, the State, the military, and the people. He said the achievement reflected the team's unity, effective political education, thorough understanding of its mission, and determination to overcome every challenge, the dedication of the team to successfully fulfilling its mission, contributing to the effective implementation of the “500-Day Campaign” in celebration of the 80th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day. 

He also called on the unit to continue effectively implementing the “500-Day Campaign for the Search, Recovery, and Identification of Fallen Soldiers’ Remains,” strengthen coordination with relevant forces, intensify search efforts in key areas, and make thorough preparations for Phase XXVI (the 2026-2027 dry season), and successfully accomplish its assigned mission.

The unit was also instructed to closely coordinate with relevant agencies to ensure the successful organization of the memorial and burial ceremony for the recovered fallen soldiers’ remains by the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, and the province’s Steering Committee 515 at Tam Nong Martyrs’ Cemetery (Phu Tho Commune, Dong Thap Province).
