Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Minh Re-Elected Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial Elderly Association
(DTO) On the morning of July 10, the Dong Thap Provincial Elderly Association held its 1st Provincial Congress for the 2026-2031 term.
The congress was attended by Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Chairman of the Vietnam Elderly Association; Mr. Dinh Van Dung, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dong Thap Province; along with representatives of provincial departments, agencies, mass organizations, and 150 official delegates representing more than 400,000 elderly people and association members across the province.

During the 2021-2026 term, grassroots associations admitted more than 78,000 new members, bringing total membership provincewide to over 330,000. Significant progress was made in caring for and promoting the role of older people. Throughout the term, more than 590,000 health checkups were provided, 145,000 people received free medication, and by the end of 2025, more than 338,000 elderly residents had health insurance coverage.

Under the “Bright Eyes for the Elderly” program, more than 48,000 people received eye screenings and treatment, including 2,345 cataract surgeries. The province currently has 418 Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs. Nearly 400,000 gift packages worth over 91 billion VND were presented to disadvantaged elderly people, while 260 “Warm Homes for the Elderly” were newly built or renovated.
Addressing the congress, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Chairman of the Vietnam Elderly Association, praised the Dong Thap Provincial Elderly Association for its outstanding achievements during the past term.

He called on the association to continue strengthening its organization, improving care for older people, promoting their role in society, and contributing to the province’s socio-economic development.
Speaking at the congress, Mr. Dinh Van Dung commended the association’s achievements, particularly following the merger of the elderly associations of the former Dong Thap and Tien Giang provinces.

He urged the newly elected Executive Committee to further strengthen the association, modernize its operations, promote the experience and prestige of older people in grassroots political development, socio-economic growth, new-style rural development, and urban modernization. He also emphasized improving the material and spiritual well-being of older people, protecting their legitimate rights and interests, and expanding the “Older Age - Bright Example” emulation movement to support the province’s sustainable development.
The congress elected a new 36-member Executive Committee. Nguyen Ngoc Minh was re-elected as Chairman of the Dong Thap Provincial Elderly Association for the 2026-2031 term.

The congress also adopted its 2026-2031 resolution, setting targets of enrolling at least 90% of older people as members, ensuring all eligible elderly people receive benefits under regulations, establishing clubs at every grassroots association, and providing digital and green transformation training to at least 50% of older people.
The congress also selected a delegation of 14 official delegates and one alternate delegate to attend the 7th National Congress of the Vietnam Elderly Association. The congress resolution was then adopted with unanimous approval from the delegates.
On the occasion, outstanding organizations and individuals were honored, while former provincial association leaders and Executive Committee members who were not re-elected were recognized for their contributions.
