Vice Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Phuoc Thien Surveys Key Projects in Eastern Region
(DTO) On the morning of May 12, Vice Chairman of the Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Phuoc Thien conducted a survey of projects in the eastern region, including: the installation of a raw water pumping station at the Nguyen Van Con sluice area (Vam Giong canal) and the raw water pipeline of Tien Giang Water Supply One Member Co., Ltd.; the Long Chanh landfill (Binh Xuan Ward); the embankment section from Huyen Chi Bridge to the Vam Giong canal intersection (the junction of Salicette Canal and Go Cong River); and Phase 2 of the Can Loc River embankment in Gia Thuan Commune.

Accordingly, the project to install a raw water pumping station at the Nguyen Van Con sluice area (Vam Giong canal) and the raw water pipeline is being invested in with the objective of supplementing raw water to serve the production of domestic water at the Go Cong Water Plant – Booster Station, aiming to supply domestic water to residents in the eastern region, especially during the drought and saline intrusion seasons.

Meanwhile, the project for the embankment of the canal section from Huyen Chi Bridge to the Vam Giong canal intersection is located in Go Cong Ward. The project has a projected total investment of over VND 205 billion, with an implementation period from 2026 to 2029. The embankment about to be invested in has a length of approximately 550 meters. The project is invested in with the goals of urban beautification, forming open spaces along the canal, public works, and parks combined with commercial and service development.
Regarding the Phase 2 Can Loc River Embankment Project in Gia Thuan Commune, the work has an estimated total investment of over VND 71 billion, with an implementation period of 3 years. The project is invested in with the objectives of preventing landslides, serving vessel mooring, and landscaping.

Specifically, the Long Chanh landfill is currently overloaded, with a daily intake of over 100 tons of waste. The landfill covers an area of more than 56,937 m2, bordered by residential areas and natural waterways.
Currently, functional sectors are constructing a perimeter fence around the landfill to partially limit the leakage of wastewater and the environmental impact of the waste. Therefore, investing in a waste treatment project is extremely urgent at this time.
During the survey, regarding the project to install a raw water pumping station at the Nguyen Van Con sluice area and the raw water pipeline, Vice Chairman Nguyen Phuoc Thien fundamentally agreed with the location for the station. Regarding the wastewater discharge point, relevant sectors and units need to survey and evaluate the most feasible option.
For the embankment project for the canal section from Huyen Chi Bridge to the Vam Giong canal intersection, Vice Chairman Nguyen Phuoc Thien requested the Area 4 Construction Investment Project Management Board to coordinate with local authorities to review the planning in this area to include it in the project's explanatory report; and to study and calculate early investment for the remaining embankment section from Truong Dinh Bridge to Huyen Chi Bridge.

Regarding the Long Chanh landfill, Vice Chairman Nguyen Phuoc Thien requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment to prepare a dossier from the time the landfill began operations to the present; where the burial cells are located; how the burial process is carried out, and where the obstacles lie. On that basis, the Department of Agriculture and Environment shall report to the Provincial People’s Committee on investment solutions and orientations. At the same time, a formal document must be issued requesting the landfill management unit to resolve the issues currently arising at the landfill.
